DONICA ROAD WEEKLY UPDATE
Here's the summary of work completed July 13–17 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION This past week marked another significant milestone for the Donica Road sewer extension project as construction advanced on both the gravity sewer and the new pump station.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Crews continued installing the final section of the 8-inch gravity sewer toward Route 1. By the end of the week, only a short section of gravity sewer remained to complete the mainline installation. Additional sewer service connections were also installed for properties on Donica Road and Route 1.

KEY MILESTONE Installation of the new pump station wet well. Contractor successfully placed the wet well base and riser sections into the previously prepared excavation. This represents one of the most significant milestones of the project to date.

FIELD ISSUES No field issues this past week.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR JULY 20–24 Crews expect to complete the remaining gravity sewer installation, continue work on the pump station, and perform additional testing of the wet well and recently installed sewer infrastructure.

DONICA ROAD WEEKLY UPDATE Here’s a summary of the work completed July 6–10 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION This past week, steady progress was made on the final section of gravity sewer between Donica Road and the future pump station. Controlled blasting was conducted to remove the remaining rock within the trench. Project testing continued as well. Pressure testing of the newly installed gravity sewer was successfully completed, with all sections passing. Mandrel testing identified two isolated areas that require additional investigation and minor corrective work before they are retested. These issues are common during construction quality control and are being addressed before final acceptance of the sewer system.

Crews also coordinated with utility contractors to install the permanent electrical service for the future pump station and made minor field adjustments to one future sewer service location to improve constructability while maintaining service to the property.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION 190 linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer was installed between Donica Road and the future pump station.

KEY MILESTONE Helical piles were successfully installed for the future pump station wet well. In addition, structural steel beams were installed over the piles.

FIELD ISSUES Crews encountered a combination of soft clay, groundwater and ledge.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JULY 13–17 Crews expect to complete the remaining gravity sewer installation and begin installation of the pump station wet well. This marks another major transition in the project as construction shifts from the underground piping to the permanent pump station structure.

DONICA ROAD WEEKLY UPDATE Here's the summary of the work completed June 29–July 3 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION This past week, construction activities shifted from the gravity sewer main to the next major phase of the project: the Donica Rd pump station. Crews began preparing the pump station site by excavating for the wetwell and installing the steel pile support system that will allow for the deep excavation required to construct the new pump station.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION While pump station work was underway, Albanese continued installing sewer service laterals to properties along Donica Road. Additional services were completed for several homes, including the pressure sewer connection for 45 Donica Rd.

KEY MILESTONE Pump station phase has started

FIELD ISSUES During excavation for pump station, unexpected ground movement was observed around the sheeted excavation. As a precaution, work was immediately stopped, the excavation was secured, and the project team is evaluating the conditions before excavation resumes to make sure the work proceeds safely.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR JULY 6–10 Work will focus on finalizing the pump station excavation approach, continuing sewer service installations, and completing the remaining gravity sewer connections associated with the pump station.

SCHEDULE With the gravity sewer main now complete, the project has entered its next major phase and continues to make steady progress towards completion.

DONICA ROAD WEEKLY UPDATE
Here’s a summary of the work completed June 22–26 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION This past week marked another major milestone for the Donica Road Project. Albanese completed installation of the gravity sewer main along Donica Rd. Crews installed the final section of 8-inch gravity sewer, completed manhole 1415, and began transitioning to installation of individual sewer service laterals to each property. In addition to the service installations, crews spent time preparing the future pump station site for the next phase of construction.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Crews installed more than 400 linear feet of new service piping with laterals extended to the edge of the public right-of-way for numerous properties. These service locations have been marked and secured for future connections when individual properties are ready to connect to the new sewer system.

KEY MILESTONE Final section of 8-inch gravity sewer has been completed.

FIELD ISSUES None

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY Temporary road closures and motorists were occasionally directed to enter Donica Road from the opposite end of the work zone.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JUNE 29–JULY 3 Service installation will continue, access to homes will be maintained, although motorists may be directed to enter Donica Road from the opposite end of work zone and temporary road closures or delays may occur while trenches are excavated across the roadway.

SCHEDULE With the gravity sewer main now complete, the project has entered its next major phase and continues to make steady progress towards completion.

DONICA ROAD WEEKLY UPDATE
Here’s a summary of the work completed June 15–19 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION Albanese continued making progress on Donica Rd, installing approximately 433 linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer main completing manhole 1414. Crews also installed sewer service connections for numerous properties along the upper portion of Donica Rd and worked directly with several homeowners to confirm service locations and connection details. Construction activities also included repair of an existing cross drain discovered during excavation. The deteriorated drainage pipe was replaced to maintain roadway drainage and improve long-term reliability.

DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATION As anticipated, portions of the week’s work encountered ledge conditions requiring controlled blasting operations. By the end of the week, crews had progressed through the ledge section and returned to more favorable excavation conditions, allowing production to increase significantly.

FIELD ISSUES Despite significant ledge conditions, crews made excellent progress and advanced through the ledge section returning to more favorable excavation conditions.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY Brief road closures and blasting operations occurred. THIS WEEK residents should expect periods when portions of Donica Road may be temporarily inaccessible from one direction while service installations are underway. Access to homes will be maintained; however, residents may be asked to access the roadway from the opposite end of Donica Rd during active construction. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s collaboration.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JUNE 22–26 The gravity sewer main is now approaching the upper end of Donica Rd. Beginning this week, Albanese is expected to complete installation of the remaining gravity sewer, construct manhole 1415, and then transition into installation of sewer services to the property lines. To expedite this work, the contractor plans to utilize multiple service crews.

SCHEDULE

Here’s a summary of the work completed June 8–12 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION Crews continued making significant progress along Donica Road, advancing the installation of the new gravity sewer main through one of the most challenging sections of the project. Crews worked closely with property owners to confirm the locations of future sewer service connections. The project team also continued documenting subsurface conditions, which have varied considerably between areas of ledge, boulders, cobbles, and sections of soft clay.

In addition, Solid Earth Technologies performed a test helical pile installation to support ongoing design work associated with the Donica Road pump station area. Results from the test installation will be used in conjunction with upcoming load testing and geotechnical evaluations.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Crews installed 347 linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer, completed  manhole 1413, and installed multiple service connections that will serve existing and future lots along the roadway.

DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS Controlled blasting operations were conducted throughout the week in coordination with Capital Drilling & Blasting to remove rock and allow the sewer installation to proceed. All blasting activities were monitored using seismic equipment, and vibration levels remained within allowable limits.

KEY MILESTONE: 347 linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer main was installed, manhole 1413 was completed and multiple service connections were installed.

FIELD ISSUES

• Despite significant ledge conditions, crews made excellent progress.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY

• Brief road closures and blasting operations occurred.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JUNE 15–19

• Construction will continue further up Donica Road
• Continue to expect weekday construction activities, temporary road closures within the active work zone, construction equipment, steel plates, and occasional blasting operations as work advances

Here’s a summary of the work completed June 1–5 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION A new manhole on Donica Rd was completed and several new service connections were installed which will serve existing and future properties along Donica Road.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Crews installed 250 linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer main.

DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS Controlled blasting operations were conducted throughout the week in coordination with Capital Drilling & Blasting. All blasting activities were monitored using seismic and audible monitoring equipment, and the work proceeded as planned.

KEY MILESTONE: 250 linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer main was installed.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JUNE 8–12

• Construction activities will continue this week along with temporary road closures within the active work zone.
• Access to homes and businesses will continue to be maintained throughout the construction process.
• Blasting will will continue throughout the week!

Albanese is back on Donica Road this week.

Crews have finished up on Route 1. Sewer main and manholes have been installed and paving is complete. Crews will be taking a 2 week pause as they head to another project. They will back on Donica Road on June 1st. Schedule continues to be on track.

Here’s a summary of the work completed May 4–8 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION Crews continued utility installation operations on Route 1 in the vicinity of Donica Road and Anthony’s. Work included re-excavation and completion of 2 manholes, installation of associated 8” PVC gravity sewer and the 6” force main piping, installation of a new 6” PVC sewer service at Anthony’s and continued tie-in work at the directional drill receiving pit near Donica Road. Additional gravity sewer and force main piping were also installed between the Route 1 work area and Donica Road directional drill location.

KEY MILESTONES:

• Installation of 2 manholes on Route 1
• Installation of 8” gravity sewer and 6” force main
• Installation of 6” sewer service at Anthony’s
• Gravity sewer and force main were also installed between Route 1 and Donica Road.

FIELD ISSUES No field issues

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY Traffic impacts were minimal and traffic control will continue during active construction operations. Motorists should continue to expect lane shifts, steel plates, uneven pavement, and minor delays in the work zone. Police details and traffic control personnel will remain onsite during active work hours to maintain safe traffic flow.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAY 11–5
Beginning Tuesday, Albanese is expected to begin roadway preparation activities on Route 1, including milling and temporary surface preparation, with paving operations anticipated to follow and likely continue into Wednesday. A Wirtgen milling machine was delivered in preparation for this week.

Crews also plan to continue the installation of the 8” gravity sewer and 6” force main at Route 1 and Donica with the installation of another manhole anticipated later this week pending field conditions and coordination with the engineer.

SCHEDULE
Construction is continuing to stay on track and according to schedule.

Here’s a summary of the work completed April 27–May 1 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION Crews continued installation of the new sewer main and service wyes on Donica Road including related service connections between Manhole 1410 and Manhole 1411.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Conditions have been favorable, with dry and gravelly soils, though some areas included weathered ledge, isolated groundwater seepage at depth, several boulders requiring removal, and multiple water services that were pneumatically exposed and coordinated with York Water District.

DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS No update given this week.

KEY MILESTONE:
Several service wyes were installed for Donica Road properties. Service wyes were installed for lots 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25.

FIELD ISSUES Storm Drain Culvert. A deteriorated 15-inch storm drain culvert was uncovered, found to be partially corroded, removed, and temporarily repaired with sleeved 8-inch PVC. York Public Works was notified.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY Traffic impacts were minimal with no police details required during this phase. “Road Closed” signage continues to be in place, limiting through traffic while maintaining local access.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAY 4–8 Crews have mobilized back to Route 1 to complete installation of that portion of the sewer. This work is expected to take approximately 2–3 weeks, including paving.

SCHEDULE
Construction is continuing to stay on track and according to schedule.

Here’s a summary of the work completed April 20—24 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION Crews advanced installation of the new sewer main up Donica Rd including installation of several manholes. Crews have also been meeting directly with property owners to confirm service connection locations. This includes adjustments to better align with existing septic systems and services, helping to make future connections as straightforward as possible.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Conditions have been favorable, with dry and gravelly soils, though some areas included weathered ledge and previously disturbed material around existing utilities. The Team has been working closely with the York Water District to safely cross and protect water lines as installation progresses.

DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS Drilling and blasting preparation has now been completed along Donica Road and in the areas behind Meadowbrook Plaza and along Eldredge Drive. Crews encountered some ledge and large boulders along the route, which were removed as needed to maintain progress.

KEY MILESTONE:
Daily progress has ranged from roughly 60 to over 120 feet of new sewer main installed on Donica Rd.
Successful installation of new sewer main completing multiple sections of pipe and installation of several manholes.

FIELD ISSUES Manholes on Route 1 The manholes planned for Route 1 are still being finalized from an engineering standpoint to ensure they are constructed on a stable and reliable bases. Once that design is confirmed, crews will return to Route 1 to complete that portion of the work.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY Traffic impacts were minimal with no police details required during this phase. “Road Closed” signage continues to be in place, limiting through traffic while maintaining local access.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR APRIL 27–MAY 1
Crews plan to continue south along Donica Road and will keep coordinating with residents as crews approach individual properties.

Here’s a summary of the work completed April 13-17 on the Donica Road sewer project:

INSTALLATION Crews advanced installation north on Route 1, completing additional sections of gravity sewer and force main, as well as continued preparation for upcoming trenching and blasting operations on Donica Road.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Subsurface conditions remain consistent with prior observations, including layers of pavement and granular fill overlying marine clay. Based on these conditions, the project team is coordinating with Woodard & Curran, S.W. Cole, and the contractor on the final design approach for the manholes. A proposal for helical pile support at these structures is currently under review

DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS Pre-drilling activities continued along Donica Road.

KEY MILESTONE:

Successful installation of gravity sewer between 2 manholes on Route 1 north of the culvert

Placement and successful testing of one of the new manholes was done following field adjustments.  Roadway subbase reconditioning in previously installed areas was done as well.

FIELD ISSUES

• A mis-marked utility was struck during pre-drilling; the affected water service was repaired and restored the same day in coordination with the York Water District.
• A deteriorated cross drain was identified and temporarily replaced, with follow-up coordination planned with the Town.

TRAFFIC AND SAFETY

• Traffic impacts were minimal with only a slight lane shift in place; traffic continued to move smoothly through the area.
• Public-related safety incidents there were two public-safety incidents that occurred within the work zone.  Both were managed appropriately on site, with no injuries reported.  These incidents reinforce the importance of adhering to posted traffic controls and detour routes.
• All work areas were secured and plated at the end of each day to maintain safe conditions for both traffic and pedestrians

WHAT’S NEXT FOR APRIL 20-24

Crews plan to continue advancing along Donica Road while coordination continues on the manhole foundation approach. The contractor is scheduled to be off Monday.

The team installed the pipes through protective sleeves instead of excavating under the culvert—which could have posed additional risk. The sleeve technology process minimized disruption and helped keep the project on schedule.

Here’s the summary of the work completed April 6–13 on the Donica Road sewer project:

• INSTALLATION Crews continued installing the new sewer infrastructure near Route 1, focusing on the area between manholes and working both north and south along the alignment. This included installation of gravity sewer pipe and force main, as well as preparation for upcoming trenching and blasting operations further up Donica Road.
• Toward the end of the week, crews observed some settlement at one of the installed manholes. Engineers and geotechnical specialists are evaluating the area and developing a long-term solution before work continues in that section.
• EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Crews began near the southern portion of the project and, as work progressed, they encountered challenging subsurface conditions, including areas of clay and groundwater. These conditions required additional support measures and careful installation techniques to ensure long-term stability of the system.
• DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS Crews were onsite performing subsurface probing and beginning preparations for controlled blasting. This work helps identify ledge and allows the team to plan for safe and efficient trenching as the project advances.
